When the answer is Ken Jennings, the question is: Who is the greatest \u201cJeopardy!\u201d player of all time?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jennings \u2013 who will headline the 2023 Nebraska Science Festival this spring \u2013 rose to fame in 2004 when he spent six months as a contestant on \u201cJeopardy!\u201d His 74-game streak and $2.52 million in winnings are still \u201cJeopardy!\u201d records today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nebraska Science Festival \u2013 scheduled for April 1-30 \u2013 will feature an array of science- and technology-related activities in communities across the state with the goal of making science accessible, interactive, relevant and fun for all ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 6, as part of this year\u2019s festival, Jennings will present \u201cArtificial Intelligence: Are Humans in Jeopardy?\u201d The presentation is free to the public (but requires a reserved ticket) and is recommended for 5th grade and above.\u00a0The 7:30 p.m. event will be at the Boys Town Music Hall, 13715 Flanagan Blvd., near the north entrance of the Boys Town, Nebraska, campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his keynote, Jennings will describe the behind-the-scenes account of his 2011 epic battle with IBM\u2019s \u201cWatson,\u201d the super-intelligent supercomputer specifically designed to beat the world\u2019s best players at \u201cJeopardy!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also will pose important questions for anyone interested in \u2013 or thanks to Hollywood, terrified by \u2013 the idea of increasingly sentient machines that can reason and learn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA strong advocate for education, Ken Jennings will entertain audiences with his trivia, behind-the-scenes stories at ‘Jeopardy!,’ and love of geography,\u201d SciFest coordinator Kacie Baum said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beginning March 6, general admission tickets for Jennings\u2019 presentation will be released on a first-come, first-served basis at Event Brite (four per person); check nescifest.com<\/a> for more information. Although the presentation is free, tickets are required for admittance when doors open April 6 at 7 p.m.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Seattle native, Jennings spent 15 years in South Korea and Singapore, where his father worked as an attorney. The only lifeline to American pop culture at the time was the Armed Forces Network, where he watched \u201cJeopardy!\u201d daily after school and dreamed of being a participant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jennings later returned to the United States and captained Brigham Young University\u2019s successful quiz bowl team. During that time, he began writing and editing questions for National Academic Quiz Tournaments. He revived his dream of competing on \u201cJeopardy!\u201d after noticing quiz bowl friends and acquaintances appearing on game shows to help pay off student loans or buy cars. In 2004, his own \u201cJeopardy!\u201d fantasy became a reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2020, Jennings was named the show\u2019s \u201cGreatest of All Time\u201d after winning a prime-time tournament against legendary champs James Holzhauer and Brad Rutter and earned an additional $1 million. In 2022, he signed on as a permanent co-host for the show with Mayim Bialik. An author of 12 books, he also stars on ABC\u2019s hit game show, \u201cThe Chase,\u201d as well as \u201cMaster Minds\u201d on the Game Show Network and co-hosts the twice-weekly podcast \u201cOmnibus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Past SciFest speakers have included scientist Bill Nye; \u201cAnimal Planet\u201d host and conservationist Jeff Corwin; meteorologist and extreme storm chaser Reed Timmer; actor LeVar Burton, who discussed merging technology, storytelling and science fiction; Kari Bryon, host on Discovery Channel\u2019s \u201cMythbusters\u201d and \u201cThe White Rabbit Project\u201d on Netflix; and the late Grant Imahara, an electronics and robot expert from \u201cMythbusters.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
