Fund created to honor UNMC\u2019s Diana Florescu, MD<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colleagues of Diana Florescu, MD, have established an endowed fund in her name, the Dr. Diana Florescu Infectious Diseases Clinical Research and Education Excellence Endowed Fund, via the University of Nebraska Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donations in memory of Dr. Florescu, who died Jan. 27 at the age of 54<\/a>, may be sent to the University of Nebraska Foundation, P.O. Box 82555, Lincoln, NE 68501-2555. Please make checks payable to the University of Nebraska Foundation and include on the memo line or enclosed note that the gift is in memory of Dr. Diana Florescu. Those interested in donating can visit the foundation website<\/a> to make an online gift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Florescu will be honored March 9 as UNMC\u2019s 17th<\/sup> Scientist Laureate<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Security changes for Global Protect<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNMC and Nebraska Medicine Information Security is actively working to implement security safeguards for the remote workforce using Global Protect<\/a>. These safeguards include Host Information Profile checks to validate if the device connecting is a managed corporate device with required protections installed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Personal devices or corporate devices that are not properly managed will not pass the checks, resulting in access being blocked when connected to Global Protect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Users connecting with a device that fails to meet the checks will be presented with HIP notifications in the system tray that outline the device status and information for help. The notifications will be the first safeguard to help enforce Information Management Policy IM20, Workforce Remote Access, that states, \u201cNo personal devices\/computers are allowed to access Global Protect.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first stage of HIP notifications is planned for March 9. Users will be notified of their device compliance and the deadlines of when a managed corporate device will be required if accessing Global Protect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No blocks will be enforced in this first stage. Notifications will be used to help users identify any corporate device out of compliance or to help inform the users their personal device should not be connecting. After a two- to three-week notification period, blocks will be enforced on traffic for non-compliant devices, and the notification wording will be changed to inform users the block.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fostering the Future running health and hygiene drive<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNMC\u2019s Fostering the Future student organization is collecting toiletries, snacks and baby items for its first FTF Health and Hygiene Drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collection runs Feb. 28 through March 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fostering the Future is partnering with the Luikart Society, Reproductive Health Advocates and the Med-Peds Interest Group on the project. Donated items will be made into baskets to be given to Omaha\u2019s foster youth community via organizations including Project Everlast, Project Harmony and Partnership 4 Kids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
