{"id":97257,"date":"2023-03-14T11:31:02","date_gmt":"2023-03-14T16:31:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=97257"},"modified":"2023-03-14T11:31:03","modified_gmt":"2023-03-14T16:31:03","slug":"capnography-during-pacu-sedation-procedures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2023\/03\/14\/capnography-during-pacu-sedation-procedures\/","title":{"rendered":"Capnography during PACU sedation procedures"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p><strong>Safety Tip &#8211; Capnography during PACU Sedation Procedures<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During moderate or deep sedation, the adequacy of ventilation shall be evaluated by continual observation of qualitative clinical signs and monitoring for the presence of exhaled carbon dioxide unless precluded or invalidated by the nature of the patient, procedure, or equipment.&nbsp; (<em>ASA Standards for Basic Anesthetic Monitoring, 2020<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you need capnography equipment for a PACU sedation case on the main campus?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The equipment for capnography is stored in the following locations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Monitor module:<\/strong>&nbsp; OR equipment room. Ask the tech for a CO2 monitor module. They are located on a shelf in the back right corner of the room. Add this module to the bedside PACU monitor for the procedure.
