The gallery space on Level 1 of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center will host the exhibition “Andrew Peters: Moments of Discovery” from March 24 through Sept. 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrew Peters grew up immersed in nature in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where he often went hunting and fishing with his father in the Missouri River Valley. As a young student, Peters was inspired by the accuracy and beauty of Karl Bodmer\u2019s watercolors of the American wilderness at Joslyn Art Museum, and he was mentored in ecology at Fontenelle Forest Nature Center by naturalist James Malkowski. These early experiences kindled his passion for travel and drawing nature from life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peters\u2019 travels led to plein air painting in Africa, Peru and Florence, Italy. For 10 years, he lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico, creating hundreds of paintings while on the move capturing the fleeting effects of light and how it determines form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEach of the works in this exhibition portrays a scene Peters encountered in our area in the past year,\u201d said Colleen Heavican Cass, UNMC Healing Arts curator. \u201cWith nature as his subject, the resulting paintings faithfully capture light, landscape and beauty from life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
