{"id":97500,"date":"2023-03-20T16:50:11","date_gmt":"2023-03-20T21:50:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=97500"},"modified":"2023-03-20T16:50:12","modified_gmt":"2023-03-20T21:50:12","slug":"unmc-medical-students-learn-residency-assignments-on-match-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2023\/03\/20\/unmc-medical-students-learn-residency-assignments-on-match-day\/","title":{"rendered":"UNMC medical students learn residency assignments on Match Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>A total of 114 senior medical students at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska,\u00a0learned about their residency assignments March 17\u00a0during an event at the Scott Conference Center at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.\u00a0<br>\u202f\u00a0<br>The 2023 Main Residency Match\u00ae\u00a0&#8212; referred to as Match Day &#8212;\u00a0is an annual rite of passage for medical students, a day when students across the country learn where they will train\u00a0for\u00a0the next three to seven years, depending on the\u00a0medical area of their choice. Students are matched through a computer program to align their preferences for residency programs to\u00a0fill the thousands of training positions available at U.S. teaching hospitals.\u00a0<br>\u00a0Thirty-eight percent of UNMC students are staying in Nebraska for their training, and 50%<a> <\/a>matched\u00a0in primary care, which includes family medicine, internal medicine, internal medicine\/geriatrics, internal medicine\/pediatrics, pediatrics\u00a0and obstetrics\/gynecology.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nationally there were&nbsp;40,375 residency positions, the largest number on record.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UNMC medical students, slated to graduate in May, are listed below by their hometown, name, specialty&nbsp;and location of residency
