She was nominated due to her excellence in rural primary care and her work on behavioral health in rural settings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recipient of this year\u2019s Harriet H. Werley New Investigator Award given by the Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS) is\u202f<strong>Breanna Hetland, PhD, RN, CCRN-K<\/strong>, Omaha Division. The purpose of the Harriet H. Werley New Investigator Award is to recognize the scientific contribution of a new investigator who has conducted nursing research that has the potential to enhance the science and practice of nursing.\u202fMNRS will be March 29 through April 1 in Des Moines, Iowa.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Beth Culross, PhD, RN, GCNS-BC, CRRN, APRN-CNS, FNGNA,<\/strong>\u202fhas been awarded the\u202fSilver \u201cU\u201d Award\u202ffor February.\u202fThis award is given annually to employees who provide consistent performance that exceeds expectations or for other special achievements. Awardees must exhibit the following values: leadership, a commitment to excellence, working together and serving as a trusted resource. As part of this award, Dr. Culross will receive a silver \u2018U\u2019 pin, a denim shirt with the silver \u2018U\u2019 logo and will be invited to lunch with the chancellor.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trina Aguirre, PhD, RN<\/strong>, and her team have received the Fred &amp; Pamela Buffett Cancer Center Community Outreach &amp; Engagement Community Health Grant. The funding will be used to support the Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska CAPWN\/Latina Red Dress Event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UNMC College of Nursing West Nebraska Division took home several honors at the Nebraska State Student Nurses Association Conference Feb. 4. at the Kearney Younes Convention Center\u202fin Kearney, Nebraska.\u202fThis year\u2019s theme was \u201cInspiring the Next Generation of Nurses.\u201d Those honored were:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Madison Wynne,<\/strong> who was named the Nebraska State Student Nurse of the Year. This marks the second consecutive year that<strong> <\/strong>the West Nebraska Division has had the Nebraska State Student Nurse of the Year. As a result, the traveling plaque returns to Scottsbluff to have Wynne&#8217;s name added.\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Kelsey Tighe, <\/strong>whose\u202f\u201cChildren&#8217;s Horse Program\u201d\u202fwon the individual community service project award. Tighe began the club in her home community of Crawford, Nebraska, to help teach children horsemanship skills while therapeutically bonding with horses.\u202fChildren ages 4 to 18 participate in activities to build their skills and learn how to care for the horses.\u202f\u201cThe kids take a lot of pride in all the hard work they do all year-round,\u201d she said. \u201cI am honored to be part of these kids\u2019 journey to become amazing horsemen.\u201d\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Junior\u202f<strong>Grace Trautman, <\/strong>who\u202fwas elected to the state board as the new nominations chair for 2023-2024. Seniors\u202f<strong>Madison Wynne<\/strong>\u202f(Breakthrough to Nursing chair) and\u202f<strong>Kelsey Tighe<\/strong>\u202f(nominations chair) successfully completed their terms on the board.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scottsbluff&#8217;s SNA representatives, who received the &#8220;furthest travel&#8221; award.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adviser\u202f<strong>Wendy Wells<\/strong>, who\u202fprovided training on Stop the Bleed, participated in the &#8220;Nurse Panel&#8221; keynote representing Population Health Nursing and received an adviser appreciation certificate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Celebrating student and faculty
