Medical school:<\/strong> University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tyler Austin initially became interested in medicine as a senior in high school after taking anatomy and physiology and as an undergraduate student at Missouri State University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI worked as a burn technician in a burn ICU where that initial interest really blossomed into something I knew I wanted to make a career out of,\u201d Austin said. \u201cHaving the opportunity to help people in some of their most stressful and vulnerable moments, while also challenging myself with a career that is always evolving, really appealed to me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This experience made Austin realize how much he enjoyed supporting patients in times of physical and emotional discomfort, and he began to consider a path in anesthesiology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAlso, the variety, the hands-on nature, the fast-paced environment and the unique camaraderie of the operating room are all aspects of the field that drew me in,\u201d Austin said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Austin is excited to meet his co-residents, the faculty and staff at UNMC, but he is most looking forward to challenging himself in new ways. Austin visited Omaha in December for the first time and said he fell in love with the city, adding that he and his wife are excited to move here and believe it will be a great place to raise their daughter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
