Knedler participates in disability resource academy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jacque Knedler, director of UNMC\u2019s Accessibility Services Center<\/a>, is helping to close the knowledge gap of accessibility needs in health care education through participation in the inaugural Disability Resource Professional Academy<\/a>, hosted by the Docs With Disabilities Initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of the academy is to increase educational opportunities for disability resource professionals seeking to gain expertise on disability access in medical education. The first year of the academy was offered tuition-free and took place at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California Los Angeles campus from Feb. 24 to March 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2023 academy was funded in part through a grant from the Ford Foundation and support from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and the Coalition for Disability Access in Health Science Programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants discussed topics dealing with serving students in health care education environments, including critical pieces of accommodation law, technical standards, clinical accommodations, assistive technology, and medical school board accommodations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen I heard about the academy, I knew it would be a great opportunity to strengthen my understanding in health sciences accommodation and addressing the gaps in health care education for people with disabilities and expanding education about disability inclusion,\u201d Knedler said. \u201cThis was the inaugural session of the academy, and there\u2019s nothing like it, so it\u2019s a completely new experience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LGTBQ+, pride alliances hosting informational tables<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The LGBTQ+ Employee Alliance and the Student Pride Alliance will be hosting informational tables on Friday, March 31, on the use of pronouns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those tables will be staffed at the following times and locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
