UNMC College of Nursing students in their final clinical rotation, NRSG 419-Transition to Practice, were able to participate in a pediatric mock code in April in collaboration with a physician from Children\u2019s Hospital & Medical Center. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All students in their fourth semester on the Omaha campus are given the opportunity to participate in an adult mock code. The idea came from a couple of students who had an interest in pediatrics who approached instructors to ask about the opportunity to have a simulated pediatric code.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instructor Brittany Schlueter implemented the simulation with the help of Sandy Sasse, clinical instructor, and Nicole Eckstrom, clinical instructor.\u00a0A majority of the students who participated in this simulation had a strong interest in pediatrics.\u00a0Samantha Gilg, MD, a cardiology fellow with Children\u2019s Hospital & Medical Center, provided the students an interprofessional approach to the mock code.\u00a0This also gave the students the opportunity to communicate with another medical discipline when responding to a critical patient care event.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Feedback from students was positive, with some saying they came out of the simulation more prepared for a real-life pediatric clinical situation. Students also said they enjoyed the interaction with the provider and the ability to walk through the scenario of a pediatric cardiac arrest. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
