{"id":99284,"date":"2023-05-09T01:56:00","date_gmt":"2023-05-09T06:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=99284"},"modified":"2023-05-08T17:14:20","modified_gmt":"2023-05-08T22:14:20","slug":"events-planned-to-mark-womens-health-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2023\/05\/09\/events-planned-to-mark-womens-health-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Events planned to mark Women&#8217;s Health Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>The Olson Center for Women\u2019s Health will celebrate Women\u2019s Health Week with presentations on uterine fibroids, living with HIV and vegetable gardening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Women\u2019s Health Week is a wellness initiative created by the National Office of Women\u2019s Health as a yearly reminder for women to take care of their physical and mental health needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Olson Center will offer three presentations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Uterine Fibroids: Patient-Centered Treatment \u2013 Tuesday, May 16<br>Karen Carlson, MD, UNMC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, will discuss the symptoms, diagnosis, evaluation and treatment options for uterine fibroids. Dr. Carlson will explain how the provider and the patient can work together to determine the best treatment for a woman and her desire for future pregnancies. Nursing credit is provided for $10.<br><br>In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by University of Nebraska Medical Center and Olson Center for Women\u2019s Health. University of Nebraska Medical Center jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing\u00a0Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the health care team. The University of Nebraska Medical Center designates this activity for 1.0 ANCC contact hour. Nurses should only claim credit for the actual time spent participating in the activity. Course ID: 23OL00016.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Women\u2019s Health and HIV: Insights From Living with HIV \u2013 Wednesday, May 17<br>Erin Fulton, mother of two daughters and wife of 13 years, will share her personal insights as a female living with HIV for 29 years.&nbsp;Fulton will dispel myths and remove the stigma association with living with HIV. She will explain the benefits of early detection of HIV and demonstrate the value that supportive conversations between health care professionals and their patients can have.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wellness Through Doing: Veggie Gardening 101 \u2013 Thursday, May 18<br>John Fech, from the Douglas-Sarpy County Extension, will teach people how to get started with growing their own food through this low-stress, easy to accomplish primer. As Arthur Ashe said, \u201cStart where you are, use what you have, do what you can.\u201d&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All presentations will be offered via Zoom from noon to 1 p.m. For more information or to register, contact the Olson Women\u2019s Health Resource Center at (402) 559-6345 or <a href=\"mailto:OlsonWHRC@unmc.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">by email<\/a>.
