UNMC\u2019s second annual Design Thinking Showcase will be held May 17 and 18 at Truhlsen Events Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Design Thinking is a process that helps a team or group work through a problem or improve a situation to turn opportunities into innovations using a series of user-focused steps. There are no preconceived problem-solving or brainstorming ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants will learn how to focus on their users, resulting in \u201cend user\u201d solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Design Thinking Sprint will be held for invited attendees on Wednesday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sprint will move through a condensed design thinking cycle with a focus on rapid generation of empathy-based solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Design Thinking Showcase will be held Thursday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to noon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The keynote speaker is Adam Royalty, DDes, designer-in-residence at Columbia Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Design. He will give a presentation on \u201cStoking University-Level Innovation and Entrepreneurship through Design Thinking by Any Means Necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Royalty is the founding director of the Columbia University Entrepreneurship Design Studio. He works with students, staff and faculty to develop innovative ideas through a design process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Design Studio hosts entrepreneurship and design courses and supports students through a range of co-curricular activities. Prior to his time a Columbia, he was lead research investigator at the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford University. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presentations also are scheduled on demonstrating innovative use of design thinking with University of Nebraska System-wide units and challenges in intellectual properties. Preliminary results from the Design Thinking Sprint also will be discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
