The UNMC College of Medicine received grant and funding awards representing more than $6 million in new funding in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carol Casey, PhD,<\/strong> internal medicine-GI, received a grant of $1,569,501 from DHHS\/NIH\/NIAA for the Alcohol Center Of Research-Nebraska.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jared Evans, PhD,<\/strong> pathology\/microbiology, received a grant of $1 million from the National Strategic Research Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Howard Gendelman, MD,<\/strong> pharmacology and experimental neuroscience, received a grant of $767,498 <\/strong>from DHHS\/NIH\/NINDS for a study on neuroprotective immunity and HIV dementia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgette Kanmogne, PhD,<\/strong> pharmacology and experimental neuroscience, received a grant of $690,748 <\/strong>from DHHS\/NIH\/NIMH for a study on preventing Alzheimer\u2019s disease-like brain pathology in HIV infection by targeting CCR5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sandipan Brahma, PhD,<\/strong>\u00a0genetics, cell biology and anatomy, received a grant of $249,000 from DHHS\/NIH\/NIGMS for a study of genome-wide mechanisms and dynamics of ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complexes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jingwie Xie, PhD,<\/strong> surgery-transplant, received a grant of $215,194 from the Mayo Clinic for a study of strategies to enhance engineered heart tissue based myocardial repair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peng Zhong, PhD,<\/strong> neurological sciences, received a grant of $168,182 from DHHS\/NIH\/NINDS to study REM sleep control by the sublaterodorsal tegmental nucleus glutamatergic neurons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

David F. Mercer, MD, PhD, <\/strong>surgery-transplant, received funding for a feasibility study to evaluate safety and probable benefit of the Eclipse XL1 System for distraction enterogenesis in adult and pediatric patients with short bowel syndrome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joseph Fernandes, MD,<\/strong> neurological sciences, received a grant of $14,702 from Massachusetts General Hospital for task order 12, regimen-specific appendix (RSA) G to Master Protocol DNL343.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rana Zabad, MD,<\/strong> neurological sciences, received a grant of $12,689 from Johns Hopkins University for the \u201cTraditional Versus Early Aggressive Therapy For Multiple Sclerosis (TREAT-MS) Trial.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karsten Bartels, MD, PhD,<\/strong> anesthesiology, received a grant of $6,300 from the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research for the 2023 MSARF Summer Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eric Peeples, MD, PhD, <\/strong>pediatrics-newborn medicine, received a grant of $1,190 from the University of Massachusetts for a study of attitudes and factors effecting PREterm infant care practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
