A hybrid symposium is planned to celebrate 20 years of the Antimicrobial Peptide Database, a research effort led by Guanshun Wang, PhD, a professor in the UNMC Department of Pathology and Microbiology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The database was developed to facilitate research and education of antimicrobial peptides. It was initiated in 2002, and the database\u2019s first version opened to the public in August 2003. Since then, it has been expanded to APD2 in 2009 and APD3 in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The symposium \u201cAntimicrobial Peptides: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” will be held Oct. 6, both virtually and in person at UNMC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opening remarks are scheduled by Ken Bayles, PhD, UNMC vice chancellor for research, and Joseph Khoury, MD, chair of the UNMC Department of Pathology and Microbiology. Dr. Wang will be the keynote speaker in the opening session, addressing, \u201cThe antimicrobial peptide database: A tool for antimicrobial development.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
