Biography

Dr. Anna Schwartz is a Professor and holds the Charlotte Peck Lienemann and Alumni Distinguished Chair in Nursing at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing. Prior to earning her PhD from University of Utah College of Nursing, she received her Master of Science in Community Health Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner certification from Arizona State University and a Master of Science in Health Education from Florida State University. She received two Bachelor of Science (Nursing and Physical Education) at the University of Florida. Dr. Schwartz’s clinical background includes decades of oncology nurse practitioner work with a special interest in breast cancer and lymphoma.

Research

Dr. Anna Schwartz’s program of research focuses on exercise oncology interventions during and following cancer treatment. She has studied the effects of exercise on fatigue, quality of life, and body composition. She worked collaboratively with YMCA-USA and Livestrong to develop Livestrong at the YMCA, a nationwide cancer survivor exercise program. She is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine Moving Through Cancer taskforce, working to make exercise oncology standard of care for all people living with and beyond cancer by changing education, access to care, policy and research. Dr. Schwartz sees a strong link between clinical practice and how it shapes and informs research.
