Biography


Cheryl Lockett is a Nursing Instructor at UNMC, College of Nursing, Northern Division in Norfolk, Nebraska. She began her nursing career in 1994 as an ICU nurse at the VA in Lincoln. From there she was a part of the new heart program at St. Elizabeth and recovered open heart patients. She then spent 11 years as Public Health nurse at the Lincoln Lancaster county health department and was involved in disease surveillance and as a first responder. During this time she pursued her masters degree as an adult nurse practitioner and graduated in 2010. She moved to Grand Island and worked in the clinic at the VA hospital for 4 years. After leaving there she spent 3 ½ years on the Rosebud Indian reservation at IHS Rosebud hospital. From there she began her nursing instructor journey and has been with UNMC since January 2019. She practices as a Mental Health NP 4 hours a week in Grand Island. When not teaching or prepping for class/clinical, she likes to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoys beading, gardening and making jelly from wild plums, choke cherries, elderberries and grapes.

Helped develop and implement fit testing for students and staff in 2021 and continues to actively fit test as needed.
