Jess Anders is a 2005 BSN graduate from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2005, with distinction. A large part of her career has been spent at the bedside caring for patients across the continuum in rural hospitals. She has spent the last several years in an Intensive Care Unit at a Level II trauma center. Being an ICU nurse, Ms. Anders discovered her true passion in nursing, caring for the most vulnerable, the sickest and most challenging patients. With her type A personality, Ms. Anders spirit and passion for nursing ignited. However, it was in the ICU that she could also come to appreciate and understand patient advocacy, involving the patient and family in the plan of care, and provide holistic care for the entire patient. She is best known from her colleagues as the nurse who ALWAYS gives back rubs before bed!

Early on in Ms. Anders nursing career, as she precepted nurses and student nurses she also discovered her deep love for teaching. In 2010, she received her master’s degree in Nursing Education. Ms. Anders is very honored to have the greatest opportunity to teach at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing for the past 6 years and hopes to continue for several more years. She is committed to the success of all students! She truly and compassionately cares for all students she is afforded the opportunity to teach. Ms. Anders feels it to be one of her greatest blessings to not only teach, but to be given the opportunity to positively impact the lives of many and instill in them the same spirit of passion for the nursing profession!

Ms. Anders continues to work at the bedside and teaches part time at UNMC. She feels this combination of practicing and teaching is the best of both worlds! She is married and has spent 13 years with her best friend and loving husband, Levi. Levi and Jess are blessed with three beautiful daughters, Serenity (21), Preslee (14), and Remmi (9).
