Biography

Kelly Buchanan graduated from the baccalaureate-nursing program at Creighton University in 1985. She started her career in surgical intensive care. Since then, she has worked in a variety of critical care settings including medical, trauma, cardiothoracic, and neuro ICU’s as well as open-heart recovery. Ms. Buchanan has had the opportunity to work in 14 hospitals in nine states including two years as a traveling nurse. She was employed as an instructor at Creighton University School of Medicine, working with third- and fourth-year medical students in the hospital setting. She graduated from Western Kentucky University with a master’s degree in nursing and worked with third semester students in medical-surgical clinicals. She started in her position at UNMC in the fall of 2018. She has taught in all levels of undergraduate clinicals for both traditional and accelerated students. Ms. Buchanan is also faculty in didactic courses for first and third semester students. Her passion is critical care in which she holds her specialty certification. Ms. Buchanan was recently inducted into the Interprofessional Academy of Educators.
