Biography


Dr. Lyndsay Dean is a Clinical Assistant Professor and has been a faculty member with the UNMC College of Nursing since 2013. In 2006, she graduated with honors from UNMC with a Master of Science in Nursing. She is dually licensed and is an ANCC/AANP board certified Advanced Practice Psychiatric and Family Nurse Practitioner. For over 14 years, she has been primarily working as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. In addition, Dr. Dean has been involved with several medication research trials, as well as precepting other interprofessional students, including medical residents and postdoctoral fellowship students. Dr. Dean's clinical background includes Neonatal Intensive Care nursing and Asthma/Allergy research. Dr. Dean has taught in the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs at UNMC. Currently, she is involved with teaching the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program, as well as serving as a preceptor to the graduate nursing students. Her preceptor role includes working as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at UNO’s Counseling and Psychological Services department. In this position, she sees an array of college students, who are experiencing mental health care challenges. In 2020, Dr. Dean received her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from UNMC. Her research focused primarily on workplace violence towards psychiatric nurses. This research provided further insight on the detrimental impact of workplace violence pertaining to the psychiatric nurses' well-being and their ability to provide quality care to patients. Specific recommendations voiced by the psychiatric nursing population were clarified in this study which helped to identify effective tertiary preventative methods and ways to improve access to supportive resources.
