BSN Admission Information

The College of Nursing has five campus sites located across the state of Nebraska – Omaha, Lincoln, Norfolk, Kearney and Scottsbluff - to make your nursing education readily accessible.

The UNMC College of Nursing BSN program is unique among nursing colleges in the area in that a student first completes their prerequisite courses from any accredited college or university and then applies to UNMC College of Nursing to complete nursing-only coursework. You earn a BSN degree awarded by UNMC.

BSN Admission Requirements

Admission to the College of Nursing is a competitive process and is based primarily on your campus preference, the GPA of the required prerequisite courses, the total number of prerequisite courses completed at the time of the application, the receipt of positive references, and a personal statement. For the Accelerated program it also includes an interview with qualified applicants. Specific requirements include:

Consider applying if you’ve completed at least 12 of the 17 required prerequisite courses and will have the remainder of your required courses completed before the program starts. Please check application dates and deadlines before applying and be sure you’ve talked with a Student Services Coordinator.

Honors Guaranteed Admissions

The College of Nursing offers Honors Admission which is guaranteed admission to a limited number of students with outstanding academic records. To qualify for honors admission, you must meet all regular admission criteria AND the following additional requirements. Please contact a Student Services Coordinator if you believe you would qualify for Honors Admissions.

Admission is granted if you meet these criteria by the end of your senior year. Students at the end of their junior year may be accepted with provisional requirements for their senior year. Numbers in (parenthesis) below are for juniors.

Failure to meet or maintain these requirements will result in the loss of guaranteed admissions. Students may still apply for regular admission after completing prerequisites

English Proficiency for Applicants Whose Native Language is not English

For applicants whose native language is not English, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the Pearson (PTE) is required for admissions. Test results must be recent (within five years prior to applying to UNMC). To be able to apply you must meet the minimum scoring standards:
