The University of Nebraska Medical Center has offered DNA-based parentage testing through our Regional Pathology Services since 1996. The methods used for this type of analysis have been continuously updated and improved over the years. This has resulted in more accurate test results and a marked reduction in the amount of specimen necessary to obtain results. Our laboratory personnel have extensive training and background in DNA-based testing.
Information given about the parties being tested is strictly confidential and will not be released to anyone without your written authorization.
The Human DNA Identification Laboratory is accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB)/ISO17025:2017 for Forensic DNA testing. The laboratory is part of the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory located within the University of Nebraska Medical Center, a partner with Nebraska Medicine.
Yes, results are admissible in court. Proper documentation is maintained on the test specimens to ensure that accurate, reliable results are obtained and can be used in the court of law.
Test results are usually available within 2 weeks after all samples are received at the laboratory.
A painless, non-invasive procedure called a buccal (cheek) swab is used to collect the DNA sample. We also provide testing on blood, fresh tissue, hair, bone and other unusual specimens.
