Aerodigestive Clinic

Multidisciplinary clinic specializing in the care of children with a history of aspiration of liquids.  Patients will see specialists in Pulmonology, Otolaryngology, Gastroenterology, Feeding & Swallowing and Nutrition.  Specialists develop a plan of care in a unified approach and patients are treated accordingly.

Immunology Clinic/Allergy Clinic/Food Hypersensitivity Clinic

Allergic diseases, including allergic rhinitis, food allergy, atopic dermatitis and asthma are the most common chronic illness in children.  A more recently discovered allergic disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, is uncommon, but is increasingly recognized in children.  Children’s Hospital & Medical Center has three Allergist-Immunologists who see children with allergic diseases, chronic hives, recurrent infections, venom allergy, and children with immune deficiency conditions.  In addition, there is a special Food Hypersensitivity Clinic which utilizes an Allergist-Immunologist, a Gastro-Intestinal specialist, a dietician, and specialty nurses to care for children with eosinophilic esophagitis or other rare forms of GI allergy.   

Children’s Developmental Clinic

The Children’s Hospital & Medical Center’s Children’s Developmental Clinic (CDC) provides evaluation and ongoing consultation to patients with a variety of developmental disabilities, including spina bifida, hydrocephalus, cerebral palsy, multiple congenital anomalies, chromosomal abnormalities and developmental delay.  Services include an initial evaluation, ongoing care, and medical case management to coordinate routine medical testing and consultations with appropriate sub-specialists.  Care is provided by a multidisciplinary team of pediatric specialists from the areas of Developmental Pediatrics, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Orthopedics, Urology, Genetics, Metabolic Bone, Pulmonology, Psychology, Dietary, Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy, Nursing and Social Work.  Recommendations for care are provided to the primary physician, school, parents and other care providers. The CDC includes the entire family and the primary care physician in a global approach to caring for children with medically complex conditions. Including the family in the plan of care helps them learn to adjust and respond to complex medical issues

Cystic Fibrosis Clinic

The Nebraska Regional Cystic Fibrosis Center cares for children with cystic fibrosis.  Approximately (how many) patients are seen in the center.  Children are seen by the pediatric CF team at Children’s Hospital & Medical Center from birth until 16 years of age and from 16-21 years of age at the Nebraska Medicine location.  Transition to the adult team at Nebraska Medicine happens around 21 years of age.  The team consists of physicians, nurses, dietitians, respiratory therapists, genetic counselors, psychologists and social workers who are specifically trained in the care of children with cystic fibrosis.  The published outcomes (cff.org) for the center are excellent.

Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic

Multidisciplinary clinic specializing in the care of children with pulmonary hypertension for various reasons.  Children are managed collaboratively by a Pediatric Cardiologist and Pediatric Pulmonologist.  Patients are seen in the clinic and in the hospital jointly by Dr. Paul Sammut, pulmonologist, and Dr. Scott Fletcher, cardiologist.  All decisions regarding evaluation and treatment are made by the team, which includes a coordinator, specialty nurses and when necessary, dietitian, respiratory therapist and social worker.
