It is imperative to train scientists to better cope with the complexities of the immunobiology of neurological diseases in their true, complex biological environment without being overwhelmed by the problem. At the same time, students still need to have a solid core-training in their discipline which will enable well-controlled, well designed studies with accurate conclusions.

The research problems and approaches of these mentors provide complementary expertise that is necessary for understanding the in vivo neurological setting and provide relevant cross-disciplinary training and research experiences.
