Center for Neurodegenerative Disorders
was established on June 12, 2009, by the University of Nebraska Board of Regents. The CND is dedicated to finding new ways to treat neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. The CND evolved from the former Center for Neurovirology and Neurodegenerative Disorders and will explore the causes of these diseases to improve diagnostics and potential drug therapies.
Under the direction of Howard E. Gendelman, MD, the CND will focus on basic and therapeutic research in neurodegenerative disorders. The goals of the CND are to
- Provide stimulating and supporting interdepartmental laboratory and translational research
- Provide interdepartmental graduate and postdoctoral training, and
- Be a conduit between the academic and private sectors.
