Specialty: Renal pathophysiology
Major Interest: Cellular and molecular mechanism in pathogenesis of acute kidney injury and renal fibrosis; neurohormonal regulation of acute kidney injury to chronic kidney disease transition and cardiorenal syndrome.

The goal of our research is to understand the cellular and molecular mechanism of acute kidney injury (AKI) and AKI to chronic kidney disease (CKD) transition, leading to end-stage renal disease. We are currently studying 1) neurohormonal regulation of AKI to CKD transition, inflammation in renal fibrosis, and CKD-induced cardiorenal syndrome, 2) mitochondrial regulation to prevent AKI, ischemic and nephrotoxic injury, and renal fibrosis, and 3) potential biomarker for early detection of kidney diseases. In addition, our collaborative projects are about 1) congenital anomalies of the kidney and the ureter (CAKUT) in ROMK deficient mouse and 2) fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling in AKI pathogenesis and kidney regeneration.
