This webinar demonstrated how taking a holistic approach to proposal development helps ensure success in grant funding. We discussed how submitting early and providing supporting evidence of capable management, institutional commitments, commensurate compliance mechanisms, and other items can bolster the success of grant applications. She spoke and took questions on the upcoming benefits open enrollment period, the benefits available to postdocs, and understanding and navigating the American employer-based healthcare system. This is important information for all postdocs, but particularly for those from overseas who do not have experience in this system.

Diane Ehlers, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Neurological Sciences at UNMC. Her research interests include physical activity and successful aging and the impact of physical activity in cancer patients and older adults. She will speak on the Science of Exercise and Cognition.

He served as chair of the Psychiatry Department from 2005 to 2018 and was named in “Best Doctors in America” in 2010-1. In 2017, he was named Vice Chancellor for Campus Wellness for UNMC and UNO. He spoke on the Art and Science of Stress and Resilience.

Wellness Workshop: Introduction of Counseling and Mental Health Resources at UNMC and Techniques for Stress Reduction, with Katherine Keiser, 30 June 2021

Katherine Keiser serves as Interim Associate Director at UNMC Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and has a been a licensed mental health practitioner since 2012. She has taught Stress Management for the UNO Health Education department and presents on such topics including Healthy Relationships, Mindfulness and Stress, and Suicide Prevention. She introduced the mental health services available to the UNMC community and speak on stress reduction techniques.

Peter Pellerito introduced the UNMC Center for Healthy Living and its services, discussed the importance of every-day choices for wellness, the importance of fitness for alleviating stress, maintaining mental acuity and productivity, and he demonstrated simple resistance band exercises that can be done anywhere in a only few minutes. Resistance bands remain available for postdocs.
