Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Sharma specializes in inpatient consultation-liaison psychiatry and holds the title of Director of Consultation Services since 2011. He is a two-time recipient of the University of Nebraska's Hirschman Golden Apple Award from the medical students for best teacher in 2011 and 2017. He also received the UNMC Student Senate Distinguished Mentor Award in 2015 for excellence in mentoring students. He is dual board certified in Adult Psychiatry and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He is also a member of Gold Humanism Honor Society.

Dr. Sharma's clinical interests include Consultation/Liaison (C/L) psychiatry, patient-centered primary care, and evidence-based psychiatry. He has a keen interest in medical education and is actively involved in various aspects of the UNMC College of Medicine's psychiatry curriculum. Dr. Sharma's commitment and achievement in medical education has been recognized by his peers who, along with the American Psychiatric Association, have named him a two-time recipient of the "Nancy Roeske Teaching Award" for excellence in medical student education in 2010 and 2016. He also received the Irma Bland Award for Excellence in teaching residents in 2011. Dr. Sharma has been named one of the "Best Doctors in America" each year since 2011. His other awards include: Golden Heart Award (2007), Steel Award in Educational Engagement (2012), Golden Apple Award (2012), New Invention Notification Award (2013), Flint Award in Education of Excellence (2015) and Golden Heart Award (2015). His research interests include psychopharmacology and ethics in clinical research. He has authored over 70 publications, abstracts, and presentations.
