Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Clinical Services

Emotional, behavioral and cognitive problems are very common in childhood and best understood within the developmental and family environments in which they occur. The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Faculty at the University of Nebraska Medical Center provide comprehensive outpatient evaluation and treatment for children and their families. Our clinicians work with patients ranging in age from early childhood to young adulthood and place special emphasis on understanding family functioning and relationships to make the most accurate diagnoses and provide the most useful treatment recommendations.

We provide a full spectrum of therapeutic services that include individual and family psychotherapies, pharmacotherapy and educational programs. Our specialists have extensive experience treating children with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, disruptive behavior disorders, learning disorders and autism-spectrum disorders, as well as children struggling to adjust to stressful life situations and coping with medical illnesses. Our clinicians see patients at the UNMC Department of Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic and the Village Pointe Behavioral Health Clinic.  Our faculty also serve as consultants to One World Community Health Center, School-Based Health Centers, and the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska.

Dr. Ryan Edwards, MD serves as the Interim Division Director of the UNMC Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Division.
