Mary Balluff, MS, RD, LMNT

Mary is an Iowa native who received her education at the University of Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Foods and Nutrition. After completing a dietetic internship at the University of Indiana in Indianapolis, Mary became a clinical dietitian at Clarkson Hospital. In 1975, Mary became a pediatric dietitian at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. During her tenure at UNMC, her responsibilities included nutrition services for General Pediatrics, as well as such pediatric specialties as Cardiology, Adult Cardiology and Internal Medicine. Mary also served as the Assistant Director of the Dietetic Internship Program.

In 1994, Mary joined the staff of the Douglas County Health Department as the WIC Manager and was promoted to Division Chief in 1997. Currently, she oversees the WIC, Immunization, Health Education, Dental and Medicaid enrollment/ education programs. Over the past 5 years Mary has chaired the Oral Health Collaborative, Baby Blossoms (an initiative to prevent infant mortality) and media component of Activate Omaha. She currently serves on boards and committees for Omaha and Millard Public Schools, Omaha Healthy Start and City Sprouts.

Mary is a volunteer for the American Heart Association and has served as the local and state president. She is also a volunteer with the American Dietetic Association and has served as state president. Mary is married and has two grown daughters.
