The Nebraska Legislature created the Rural Health Education Network (RHEN) with the passage of LB 625e in 1991. The goal of this legislation was to foster a cadre of health professionals who would ultimately serve rural Nebraska. Since this that time RHEN has successfully populated rural Nebraska with health professionals through cooperative and innovative education programs between UNMC and rural sites. Partners in these educational endeavors include: rural preceptors, community-based organizations, Area Health Education Centers, local health departments, critical access hospitals, and rural undergraduate institutions. This is an exciting time in the history of RHEN as we look forward to more opportunities to strengthen existing relationships and develop new partnerships and pipeline programs that will address health professions workforce shortages in rural Nebraska. Thank you for your interest in RHEN.
