The Department of Radiation Oncology is associated with the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center, which is the only cancer center in Nebraska with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation. It is one of 65 NCI-designated centers in the country, earning this designation based on scientific excellence and the capability to integrate diverse research programs focused on cancer. It is also a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), an alliance of 19 of the world’s top cancer centers that develop standards and set guidelines for treating patients.
The Department of Radiation Oncology also is accredited by the American College of Radiology through January 2021. The goals of the accreditation program are to provide an impartial, third-party peer review; to recognize quality radiation oncology practices through accreditation; to make recommendations for improvement in practice and patient outcomes according to the recognized standards of the scientific community; and to provide a referral list for patients.
