Counseling Staff

Each of our counselors is licensed to provide mental health therapy and/or substance abuse treatment in the state of Nebraska. Our staff provide a safe, confidential atmosphere where personal concerns can be openly explored within a culturally sensitive context. Medical referrals are available if needed.

To schedule an appointment with one of our counselors, please call 402-559-7276 as email is not monitoried 24/7. All of our counselors offer a safe atmosphere where personal concerns can be openly explored within a culturally sensitive context. Students seek counseling for a variety of issues including, but not limited to: anxiety, depression, substance use and abuse, relationship issues (e.g., peers, family, roommates, etc.), sexual assault, LGBTQIA+ issues, grief, trauma experiences, and adjustment issues (e.g., cultural, academic, military, etc.).

Katherine Keiser

Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner

  Katherine serves as the Interim Associate Director of UNMC Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), and she is a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner. She received her Master of Science degree in Community Counseling from UNO in 2010 and joined the UNO CAPS professional staff in 2012 where she has been the main liaison to both the Office of Military and Veteran Services (OMVS) as well as Accessibility Services Center (ASC). She provides trauma-informed, mental health counseling for individuals and couples as well as outreach, referral assistance, and wellness education. In 2020, Katherine created and taught the new Public Health undergraduate course, Mental Health: A Public Health Approach and has taught undergraduate Stress Management. She frequently presents on such topics as Healthy Relationships, Mindfulness and Stress, and R.E.A.C.H. Suicide Prevention. In 2013, Katherine spearheaded the opening of the Maverick Food Pantry, a resource available to both UNO and UNMC campuses.
