College of Dentistry
Each UNMC College of Dentistry academic program has specific requirements and deadlines for many of the tasks listed on the New Student Instructions page. There are also important additional steps that are required. Please examine your academic program menu below thoroughly.
Reminder: Check your UNMC email account frequently for important onboarding information.
The College of Dentistry programs are rigorous. We encourage all students to review the resources and accommodations that are available. This may be done at any time, but we encourage students to start this process well in advance of the first quizzes and exams.
D1 Students

We suggest that you contact oral surgeons and dentists in your area. Most dentist are happy to help with this project. You will use these teeth for several classes.
Students must possess the skills and abilities that will allow them to successfully complete the course of study and receive the full benefit of the education. Any student or applicant seeking admission as a student must be able to meet the technical standards found here with or without reasonable accommodations.
The College of Dentistry has specific computer requirements. A more detailed description of the requirements can be found here. If you have any questions about the requirements, please email COD’s Director of Information Services, Ms. MaryLu Steube at marylu.steube@unmc.edu.
Students must purchase their own magnification loupes. The cost to purchase the loupes is not included in the student fee assessment and will be at the student’s own expense. An estimated expense for purchasing loupes is included in the financial aid cost of attendance allowance.
During New Student Orientation, detailed information regarding loupes will be provided and a vendor fair will be held. Students will be able to purchase loupes at the vendor fair.
You will have two ID cards while you are a student at the College of Dentistry: A UNMC ID and a UNL ID known as an Ncard. West Division dental hygiene students do not need an Ncard.
- UNMC ID Card: We will take your picture during orientation for your UNMC ID card.
- Ncard: Lincoln Campus students only. Your Ncard allows you security access to the college. If you already have an Ncard, you do not need to obtain another one. It will benefit you to have your Ncard before classes start (Lincoln campus only). You must be registered for classes to obtain an Ncard. To obtain your Ncard go to http://ncard.unl.edu/ and follow the instructions.
