While our cardiothoracic surgery residency is relatively new, we have hit the ground running.    It all starts with an outstanding faculty who are true experts in adult cardiac surgery, congenital cardiac surgery and general thoracic surgery.  Our case volume is robust—performing over 600 adult open heart operations, 100 TAVR, 60 LVAD and 40 heart transplant a year.   We perform close to 1000 general thoracic operations including over 20 esophagectomies each year.  Our congenital service is one of the busiest in the entire Midwest, performing over 250 open cardiac cases each year.  Residents are actively involved in even the most complex operations and as their training proceeds and their expertise grows, they are performing these complex operations.  We have a growing capability to support clinical research projects and will fully support residents in writing papers and presenting at national meetings.  The faculty takes a very real interest in each resident and in turn expects great things from them as well.  Didactics and simulation are excellent, and we intend to be cutting edge in providing the newest learning opportunities.  Omaha is a great place to live, especially for raising families.  We welcome your application to our program and hope to get an opportunity to show you our strengths in person.

Sincerely,

Mike Moulton, MD
