Additional Educational Opportunities

Boot Camp

TSDA sponsorship allows the incoming fellow  to attend the STS (formally the TSDA) Boot Camp. The course is an intense two-day session in North Carolina, dedicated to overview of critical and essential skills needed to success in cardiothoracic residency.

STS Boot Camp

National Conferences

Fellows are permitted and encouraged to attend at least one national conference (STS, AATS, etc.) per academic year with expense reimbursement available from the program (see financial support below).  We believe this is important for networking within the subspecialty and staying up-to-date on current data.

Simulations / Skills Training

Skills courses with a focus on a particular valve or surgery.  Sessions are 2-3 hours and the fellow's time is protected during these sessions.

Modeled after the TSDA Simulation Curriculum

  • $1600 purchase allowance for surgical loupes (1st year resident only)
