General requirements
All residents are required to score at or above the 35th percentile on the annual ABSITE exam. The UNMC General Surgery Residency Program has an ABSITE Club, in which residents scoring below at or below the 35th percentile will be enrolled. Residents may also be required to complete a practice exam as part of the mentoring program.
PGY 1
- PGY 1 residents scoring at or below the 35th percentile will be placed in the ABSITE Club
PGY 2
- PGY 2 residents scoring at or below the 35th percentile will be placed in the ABSITE Club. Residents scoring at or below the 35th percentile for both the PGY 1 and 2 years will continue in the ABSITE Club and may be subject to remedial action.
PGY 3
- PGY 3 residents scoring at or below the 35th percentile will be placed in the ABSITE Club. Residents scoring at or below the 35th percentile for both the PGY 2 and 3 years will continue in the ABSITE Club and may be subject to remedial action.
PGY 4
- PGY 4 residents scoring at or below the 35th percentile will be placed in the ABSITE Club. Residents scoring at or below the 35th percentile for both the PGY 3 and 4 years will continue in the ABSITE Club and may be subject to remedial action.
PGY 5
- PGY 5 residents scoring at or below the 35th percentile may be subject to remedial action including but not limited to cancelling travel to research meetings. The purpose of these actions is to redirect the residents to improve their fund of knowledge and thereby improve performance on the Board examinations.
For all residents:
Residents scoring at or below the 35th percentile during any two consecutive year period of the residency will continue in the ABSITE Club and may be subject to remedial action.
