Campus Fellowship for Christ
Campus Fellowship for Christ meets every Wednesday during the lunch hour for Bible study, prayer, and fellowship. We also receive guidance and mentorship from Christian medical professionals at events such as Healthcare Dinners and Ethics Lunches, which take place each semester. All UNMC students are welcome and encouraged to join, regardless of their chosen area of study or spiritual background. We aim to grow in our personal relationships with Jesus, increase our knowledge of the scriptures, support each other through the trials of school and life, and form lasting friendships with each other.
Climb. Relax. Adventure. Gather.
Climb. Relax. Adventure. Gather. (CRAG) is a student-run, non-profit organization designed to provide UNMC students a safe and affordable means to learn rock climbing techniques, develop a deep knowledge of advanced climbing techniques and socialize with other climbers, in addition to promoting related outdoor activities. By doing this CRAG aims to foster a deeper community within UNMC and the greater University of Nebraska Campuses in a way that encourages students to stay active and have fun.
Doc'Apella is a singing group open to all UNMC students. We engage in group rehearsals to prepare for performances in various settings and venues, from organized events such as holiday celebrations to more impromptu singing in the hospital wards. We aim to foster community and enhance well-being through the shared endeavor of making music as a creative outlet and as a service to patients.
Graduates and Professionals Representing Achievement Diversity and Service (G.R.A.D.S.)
G.R.A.D.S. is an inclusive group of graduate and professional students that are committed to providing a supportive network, representative of diverse backgrounds reaching toward achievement, encouraging diversity, and providing service to the UNMC campus and Omaha community. Collectively we are working with students from every college to grow a foundation of support and academic structure for current and incoming students at UNMC. We have also begun to build a strong network with supportive faculty and staff, in order to foster mentorship that is specific to a student's area of study. In general, GRADS hopes to serve as a bridge to connect and support underrepresented students at UNMC that are often overlooked and not as welcomed/substantiated upon matriculation throughout their course of study or training.
The Psychiatry Interest Group is a student-run group for College of Medicine students interested in the behavioral health field. All students are welcome to attend our annual Mentorship Dinner hosted in the spring, where they are to connect with faculty in an informal setting and are able to ask real questions and become better acquainted with the behavioral health field. In January, we host 'Mind your Mind,' a mental health awareness week full of activities ranging from free massages to stress reduction technique lunches. We also volunteer at SHARING clinics and provide psychiatric services year round.
UNMC Racquet Club
The purpose of this organization is to:
1) Provide professional students opportunities for teamwork building, networking, and unrivaled competition in racquet sports without the demands of a dedicated league or collegiate level competition
2) Provide quality instruction to co-ed membership from all backgrounds and skill levels with support from the City of Omaha Parks and Recreation and the UNMC Center for Healthy Living
3) Encourage a lifelong appreciation for a healthy, active lifestyle and personal wellness through tennis and other racquet related sports such as pickle ball, racquetball, badminton, and table tennis.
UNMC Student Pride Alliance
The Student Pride Alliance is a campus-wide Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual and Ally (LGBTQIA+) education and support group. Pride Alliance fosters acceptance of students, faculty and staff to create a more diverse and accepting environment. In addition, the alliance advocates patient care issues and health disparities that disproportionately affect the LGBTQIA+ community. The group meets regularly throughout the year, and meetings are open to all students, faculty, and staff.
UNMC Student Senate
The UNMC Student Senate is a student organization that represents UNMC students at the highest level. Senators are elected by their peers and work throughout the year to provide excellence in student programs, administrative representation, and mechanisms of change for student issues and concerns. Student Senate meets twice a month to address these issues and other projects in order to serve the student body, the medical center, and the community at large.
White Coats for Black Lives
White Coats for Black Lives (WC4BL) is a chapter of the National WC4BL organization. We aim to achieve the national goals of fostering dialogue on racism as a public health concern, ending racial discrimination in medical care, and preparing future physicians to be advocates for racial justice. We welcome anyone who wants to learn more about racial justice in medicine!
