HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Experts are reminding you to limit your time outside during this hot stretch.

For those who have to work outside, doctors at UNMC stress the importance of taking plenty of breaks -- and wearing cool and loose clothing.

If possible, try to stay in the shade and drink plenty of water.

Dr. Jesse Bell of the UNMC College of Public Health also says to not only to watch out for yourself, but also look out for the signs of exhaustion in people around you.

“Be paying attention to if someone seems dizzy, confused, maybe they’re sweating profusely and they’re cold or clammy,or they don’t feel well in general -- paying attention and learning what those symptoms are, so that way you can take action and get them the appropriate treatment that’s needed as quickly as possible.”

Doctors also say that extreme heat likely kills more people than any other climate or weather-related event in the U.S.
