How to Cite INBRE

You must cite INBRE on all publications, presentations, press releases, requests for proposals, bid invitations, or any other documents or applications that describe projects or programs that were supported by INBRE, including if:

• Your work benefited from the use of INBRE equipment.
• An INBRE-sponsored student worked in your lab.
• You received money from INBRE that contributed to your research or career.

You must cite the grant in the original manuscript and link the final publication to the grant after it is accepted, following these instructions. Citing the grant alone does not result in a link to our grant that is visible to NIH

Example Language for Citing in a Manuscript:

"Research reported in this publication was supported by the National Institute Of General Medical Sciences of the National Institutes of Health under Award Number 5P20GM103427. The content is solely the responsibility of the authors and does not necessarily represent the official views of the National Institutes of Health.”

or

"This publication was made possible by an Institutional Development Award (IDeA) from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences of the National Institutes of Health under Grant # 5P20GM103427"

or

"The project described was supported by an Institutional Development Award (IDeA) from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences of the National Institutes of Health under Grant # 5P20GM103427."

Where appropriate, also add: Its contents are solely the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily represent the official views of NIH.

Acknowledgment of Federal Funding

As required by U.S. Health & Human Services appropriations acts, all HHS grantees must acknowledge federal funding when issuing statements, press releases, requests for proposals, bid invitations, and other documents describing projects or programs funded in whole or in part with federal money.  Grantees are required to state:

1. The percentage and dollar amounts of the total program or project costs financed with federal money.
2. The percentage and dollar amount of the total costs financed by nongovernmental sources.

Instructions for Linking the Grant to Existing Publications

Follow these steps even if you didn’t cite In original manuscript.

National Institutes of Health and renewal grant reviewers may check the grant record of the director/principal investigator of the Nebraska INBRE Program to see how many publications related to Nebraska INBRE pilot grants or other resources are linked to the grant. It is possible to go into your existing publications and add the link to the grant, even if you did not cite the grant in the original manuscript by following these steps:

1. Log into MyNCBI with the same login you used for the NIH Biosketch “My Bibliography.”
2. Click on your login name in the top right corner to check your account settings, making sure that MyNCBI is linked to NIH and the eRA Commons. If it already is, you will see the words “eRA Login” under “Linked Accounts”. Otherwise, click “Change” and add NIH and eRA Commons from the dropdown menu. (Important: You will not be able to add the link to our grant unless you have linked MyNCBI and the eRA Commons).
3. Go back to MyNCBI homepage.
4. Choose the article to which you want to add the grant citation.
5. Click on Manage Citations on the top left and choose Manage Awards.
6. Select the Search/Add other awards tab if MW CTR-IN Grant is not listed. Enter either 5P20GM103427 or the Nebraska INBRE Director/PI's name (Paul Sorgen). Select the grant: 5P20GM103427and close.

Important: All publications supported by NIH money and linked to the Nebraska INBRE must comply with NIH’s Open Access Policy and must have a PMCID, which is different from an automatically assigned PMID. To get the PMCID, follow the directions under Public Access Compliance to the right of each article listed in your MyNCBI.
