Drinking Water Safety

Drinking water is supplied to your home from either a surface water or groundwater source that travels through your local water utility or through an individual water system, such as a private well. Owners of private wells and other individual water systems are responsible for ensuring that their water is safe from contaminants. Protecting the safety of groundwater is a concern for everyone. Groundwater sources can become contaminated with germs and chemicals from human activities, which can make people sick.
