Jessica Gormley, PhD, CCC-SLP

Jessica Gormley, PhD, CCC-SLP joined the Munroe-Meyer Institute in 2019 after completing her doctoral degree at Pennsylvania State University and previous clinical experience working with children and adults in acute rehabilitation units at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Gormley has extensive clinical and research background in augmentative and alternative communication within the inpatient and outpatient environments. Gormley’s current clinical research centers on partnering with people who use AAC, their family members, and healthcare providers to co-create and evaluate communication tools, strategies, and programs to support the participation of people with limited speech in healthcare and community settings. Gormley’s teaching activities occur in the classroom, a variety of online platforms, and clinical settings to focus on preparing the next generation of healthcare providers to use AAC strategies in their clinical practice. Clinically, Gormley provides inpatient and outpatient AAC services across the lifespan.

Gormley has published numerous papers and book chapters and has presented nationally and internationally on augmentative and alternative communication. She is has been a Co-Organizer of the Patient-Provider Communication Network since 2021. She has received collaborative funding through the National Institutes of Health; National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research; the American Speech-Language Hearing; Nebraska Council on Developmental Disabilities; and Ability Central.
