Genetic Medicine at Munroe-Meyer Institute

The department of Genetic Medicine provides comprehensive services for a variety of patients and their families with genetic and metabolic disorders.

Geneticists and genetic counselors

Geneticists and genetic counselors offer advice on recurrence risks and future family implications, in addition to helping parents gain an understanding of what may have caused the disorder. Our Genetic Counselors help to identify resources in collaboration with school systems, assist with treatment plans, navigate insurance coverage and coordinate referrals to other agencies and support groups associated with a specific diagnosis.

Munroe-Meyer prides itself on the ability to diagnose disorders using genetic testing.

In 80 percent of cases, families change the management of the disorder following a genetic diagnosis.
