Parents Helping Parents for Vaping Cessation

You Can Quit

The PhP-VX Study is a community engaged partnership aimed to provide parents with the tools and resources they need to help their teen quit. Though this research, we will test whether the PhP-VX intervention can be used to reduce vaping among teens who currently vape. We are partnering with Parents Against Vaping E-cigarettes to expand our reach. We are currently looking for parents and teens to participate.

About the Study

This study aims to test the Parents Helping Parents for Vaping Cessation (PhP-VX) program, which is designed to help parents support their teenagers in quitting e-cigarette use. The PhP-VX program offers coaching and educational materials to help parents guide their children through the quitting process.

Collage showing educational materials: an online slide titled Team No-Vaping, an animated video of a person vaping, and a printed handout titled Vaping Cessation.

The study will include 100 parent-teen pairs (dyads).

  • Teens must be 15-18 years old, currently use e-cigarettes, and be able to read English.
  • Parents must have regular in-person contact with their teen, have access to a computer or smartphone, and be interested in helping their child quit vaping.
Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups.
  • One group will receive the 3-month PhP-VX program, which includes one-on-one virtual coaching for parents every two weeks and online educational materials for both parents and teens.
  • The other group will not receive the program during the study.
All participants will complete surveys at the beginning of the study and again after one, three, and six months.
