The mission of MMI’s Department of Recreational Therapy is to provide safe and fun recreational therapy through social opportunities for outings, clubs, events and activities for children and adults who have complex health care needs.

Our team is committed to provide extraordinary care that aligns with the MMI Patient Experience Pledge. Specifically, our adult and pediatric programs and services promote:

  • Fitness by recognizing that physical activity is important to health and wellness and comes in many different forms.
  • Fun by promoting accessible leisure activities at MMI and in the community.
  • Function by partnering to work with you rather than on you.

Program Focus

The primary goal of our programs is development of lifetime leisure skills.

Our programs use play, recreation and leisure activities to improve physical, cognitive, social and emotional functioning. Individualized goals and objectives are established based on observational assessment results and in consultation with the participant and/or their caregiver or guardian.

In addition to being professionally trained in recreational therapy, our providers are passionate about transforming the lives of individuals with disabilities and complex health care needs.

We look forward to providing services and resources that are meaningful to individuals and families.
