Professional Bio
Carney is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Psychology at MMI, where she works with the Comprehensive School-Based Mental Health team. She earned her PhD in School Psychology and is passionate about trauma-informed care, adolescent mental health, and promoting inclusion and belonging. Her clinical work focuses on integrating evidence-based practices into schools to create safe and supportive environments for all students. Carney has particular interest in assessing and treating trauma, reducing educational disparities, and working with at-risk and justice-involved youth. She is committed to providing equitable and culturally-responsive mental health services to help empower children, adolescents, and their families.
Carney's area of research focuses on bullying prevention and intervention, particularly for vulnerable groups of students. Her dissertation examined how perceptions of school climate influenced psychosocial outcomes for students with and without disabilities who experienced bullying victimization.
Carney provides patient care services through the UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute Department of Psychology.
