Educational Materials
Our goal in working with teachers is to support, enrich and supplement their health-science classroom efforts and curricula. We want to be the best friend and resource to their classroom.
Workshops
The workshops offered every summer focus on topics based on a needs assessment survey of our partner schools.
SEPA Science Teacher Workshop
This is a professional development program that addresses science content standards for teachers in our SEPA partner schools on Native American reservation schools in Nebraska and South Dakota.
UNMC staff, visiting scientists and science educators lead the interactive presentations, field trips and hands-on activities. Each year, the sessions cover areas of need identified by teachers and administrators that cover various concepts related to the understandings and abilities of science instruction that support teaching in the classroom. The workshops are designed to enable teachers to enhance their own knowledge and methods into various instructional settings.
For questions about the SEPA Science Teacher Workshop, email SEPA.
Role Model Posters
In an effort to create awareness of Native Americans presently in health and science fields and to encourage students to explore these professions, the SEPA program staff wants your help in nominating Native American professionals who would be good role models for young Native American students.
The role model poster series feature Native Americans from across the country who work in a science or health science field. Designed with the idea of providing positive and inspiring role models to Native students, these posters are great for classroom instruction, hallway displays and multicultural events as well as being a novel way of exposing students to new career possibilities. Each set features five different individuals and their careers.
