Sally Heusinkvelt, DNP

Clinical Assistant Professor, UNMC College of Nursing

Dr. Heusinkvelt is a clinical assistant professor, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), Omaha Division. She received her Registered Nurse Diploma from Bryan School of Nursing in 2000, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UNMC in 2005, a Master of Science in Nursing from UNMC in 2008, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Creighton University in 2019. She is dually certified as an Acute Care and Adult Health Nurse Practitioner. Her doctoral scholarly project included the design, development, and implementation of a fully online preceptor training program for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants in a large Hospital Internal Medicine practice.

After completing her Nurse Practitioner certification, she worked in a hospital medicine practice for thirteen years, prior to transitioning to a dual inpatient and outpatient Cardiology practice at Nebraska Medicine.

Her research interests include the development of clinical education for nurse practitioners including preparation of clinical preceptors, preparing nurse practitioner transition to practice, and building academic practice partnerships to successfully prepare the future nursing workforce.
