Online Certificates & Degrees

Online courses through the College of Public Health follow the UNMC semester schedule, with a fixed start and end date, and are offered in the fall, spring and summer. Online classes are delivered using your internet connection and the UNMC learning management system Canvas. Specifically designed for adult learning, our online courses are completely asynchronous with no required live meeting times.

Most of our online courses are delivered in weekly modules that require students to sign in and interact multiple times each week. On a weekly basis, students will likely complete required readings and activities, watch video lectures, visit websites, and participate in discussions and possible group work with fellow students. There may also be assignments, quizzes, tests, projects and papers due each week. The types of assessments vary by course. Some courses offer optional live meeting times, and most courses regularly offer virtual ‘office hours.'

The time commitment for online courses vary slightly, but the average student is engaged for approximately 8–10 hours each week per three-credit hour course.
