Technology Requirements
Students in the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions are responsible for having reliable access to a computer that meets the technology requirements for their academic program. A mobile phone alone is not sufficient for required coursework, assessments, videoconferencing, or other instructional activities.
At minimum, students should have access to a laptop or desktop computer with:
- A currently supported Windows or macOS operating system
- A current web browser, such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari
- A webcam and microphone
- Reliable high-speed internet access
- Enough memory and storage to install required software and updates
- Administrator access to install and update required software
Students should not rely on Chromebooks, Android devices, Linux devices, tablets, or mobile phones unless their program has confirmed that the device is acceptable for all required coursework, assessments, and required software.
Recommended Device Guidance
For best performance, students are strongly encouraged to use a computer purchased within the last five years, when possible. Older devices may still work if they meet current software, operating system, memory, storage, webcam, microphone, and internet requirements; however, older devices may be more likely to experience performance issues or compatibility limitations.
Required Software and Platforms
Students may be required to use Canvas, Microsoft 365, Zoom, ExamSoft/Examplify, and other program-specific software. Requirements may change, so students should review current system requirements before purchasing a device or updating an operating system.
- Canvas Browser and Computer Requirements
- Zoom System Requirements
- ExamSoft/Examplify Minimum System Requirements
Program-Specific Requirements
Some programs require additional technology, software, or hardware. Students are responsible for meeting any additional requirements communicated by their program.
Diagnostic Medical Sonography
Diagnostic Medical Sonography students are required to use SonoSim and SonoSimulator. Students should review the current SonoSim system requirements before purchasing or replacing a device.
SonoSim states that SonoSimulator is not supported on Chromebooks, tablets, or mobile devices.
* Current UNMC students can purchase discounted Microsoft products to comply with requirements.
