She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Wartburg College and her Master of Medical Genetics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Fisher has been a clinical genetic counselor at UNMC since 2004. She has worked in several clinical settings including pediatric, outreach clinics, and specialty clinics, such as Cystic Fibrosis Clinic, but has spent most of her clinical time in a prenatal setting. She also had more than ten years of experience with the Maternal Serum Screening program at the Human Genetics Laboratory calling out abnormal results, answering questions on screening, and updating protocols.
