Biomedical Informatics Ph.D. 2015

I have an electrical engineering background and during my undergrad years my main interest was machine learning applications on robotics. Later I pursued this interest in computer science at the State University of New York at Albany. And towards the end of my master’s degree in Albany I met my current mentor Dr. Guda who introduced me the biological applications of machine learning methods which I found interesting enough to move to Nebraska with him and join the PhD program. Currently I am working on classification of breast cancer tumors based on somatic mutation profiles in which I use supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods on cutting edge technology generated breast cancer data. With the proposal of my PhD thesis project, I received UNMC internal fellowship award which have supported the project for two years. Besides spending time in research, I like hiking and camping.
